Isla Mujeres - Cancun Mexico

We became some what stir crazy hanging out at the hotel, and headed out on one of the tours available, to the Isla Mujeres, just north of Cancun.  The island was a tourist trap, one end having an overpriced walk along a series of degrading iron works -called art - to a temple. While there were a few pieces of interest, like those Mayan figures  on the fence, and the Goddess Ixchel, most were cheezey - sorry no photos.

Pelicans flourished along the shoreline.

We needed at least one staged photo.

Ok, maybe more than one.

The shoreline was rocky, sporting statues, and iguana - both life and figures.  This was the only one worthy of a look.

I was surprised to find a large number of iguana, which explains why the large statue was located nearby.  They did not seem bothered by us.  Geckos were also plentiful, although less interested in getting their photos taken.

The sun was pealing the paint off the status, making it look even more realistic.

The sun could not be wasted.

The village was on the north end of the island.  Golf carts were used by many to get around.

The stores were packed into a market area. Generally the same items were sold in all of the shops around cancun.  The big difference here was that the island was tax exempt.  The money still seemed to disappear quickly.

Boats being readied for the tourists

On the return, we had a few spectators.

The development along the hotel strip was significant.

Seagulls and pelicans ubiquitous.

With the occasional frigate bird soaring aloft in an azure sky
