August - Foothills, Banff and Lake Newell

 Sulphur Mountain Banff

Aged white spruce over looking the Banff town site.

Smoke rolling into the valley from local fires.

Old meteorological station on top of Sulphur Mountain, accessibility provided by well designed and maintained stairs.

The building.

Sometimes more than landscapes get caught in the photo.

Road side stop

Lake Newell (south of Brooks AB) provides ample resources for visiting white pelicans and a myriad of other birds.

A sport hump caused by jealousy after a successful fishing event.

Mountain sheep wandering along the Elbow River

This fellow could not decide if I warranted a lecture.

Hazy late afternoon with smoke drifting into the Sheep River valley.

Looking towards the mountains at sunset from just south of Calgary.  This was the very last moment before the sun vanished below the mountain.

Bow River inside of Banff National Park.

End of season bird house, long since vacated.

This small fellow, a king bird, kept a quizzical eye on me.

The brook trout were calling.

Porcupine meandering along edge of Fish Creek Parkafter dusk in Calgary (flash was required).  This was the first I had seen in the (approximately) 20 years I had been in Calgary.

Red Deer River sunset near Sundre Alberta

I had walked up to this shore and found a deeper run after these rapids.  I spit a sunflower seed into the water in a moment of inspiration only to see a trout rise to take it.  Excited, I spent the next 2 hours fly fishing this stretch without a single strike.
